LKM CEO Receives Award for Outstanding Contribution to the North Carolina Travel Industry

John KetchumJohn Ketchum, chief executive officer of LKM, has been awarded the Charles Parker Award by the North Carolina Travel Industry Association. The award recognizes outstanding contributions made by individuals to the state’s travel industry. Former recipients have included North Carolina luminaries such as Hugh M. Morton, who built the Mile High Swinging Bridge and opened Grandfather Mountain after inheriting the Mountain from his grandfather. Other recipients include William A.V. Cecil of the Biltmore Estate and H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler of Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

LKM's work on North Carolina's state tourism site gains national accolades.

Consumers are tough customers. Almost as tough as the nation's fifty state Travel and Tourism Directors who just chose to honor LKM's work for visitnc.com with a Mercury award.

Naturally we're honored. But the thing that puts the real smile on our face is how consumers are interacting with our ideas and efforts. For the third time in seven years North Carolina's website has been honored for it's achievements in increasing visits (up 40%), bringing in new visitors (2 million more than the previous year) and creating content people will hang around for (8.16 minutes per visit). We can't take all of the credit, though. If you've seen the state or experienced its people and stories you learn quickly where the real magic lies.

F2 Tornado and a major racetrack meet. Guess who wins?

On the surface, drywall may not appear too exciting. Traditional paper and gypsum. But what if the paper on the surface was gone and drywall became more moisture and mold-resistant than ever? Therein lies the story that Georgia-Pacific hired LKM to tell. The stories of the product’s success have come rolling in all across America. So we decided—drywall isn’t boring. Especially drywall with something to say, like the example below. Online, in sales presentations and projected on the sides of buildings in cities are some of the ways LKM is getting the word out. (Crank up your volume.)

Giving the Alamo something to remember

GP Logo 48 hours to take over a city. Now we call that a mission.

Imagine 7,000 of your best customers descending on one spot at one time. You’ve just pictured the American Institute of Architects’ National Convention in San Antonio.

The challenge? Introduce Georgia-Pacific’s Paperless building products that resist moisture and mold. And do it in a memorable way.

Possessive Homeowner drives brand strategies

Steve Lasch, account planner and consumer specialist, has, after wide ranging interviews with homeowners in both one-on-ones and group settings, profiled today’s Possessive Homeowner. In addition, he recently returned from an international forum on consumer trends, where the near-term future of the home was emphasized, as well as changes now in the offing.

But of course, homes don’t change until homeowners do. And the big changes in both home furnishings and home improvement are driver by life changes. As technology continues to spread into traditional spaces, these spaces will be transformed in both form and function.

Georgia Pacific and LKM Take On Mold

Three little words. One big issue. The national push is underway as Georgia-Pacific and LKM create a whole new category in the wallboard industry. Among the goals was to prove success with consumers and builders in select markets. Then get buy-in from the home centers across the country. Done.

With 7 out of 10 homes harboring mold between the walls, we’ve got a big audience. Click here to see one of the TV spots.
